Description

Málaga is one of the oldest cities in the world. It was founded by the Phoenicians as Malaka about 770 BC. The archaeological remains and monuments from the Phoenician, Roman, Arabic and Christian eras make the historic center of the city an "open museum", displaying its history of nearly 3,000 years.

The Cathedral of Málaga (upper left) is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Málaga. It is in the Renaissance architectural tradition. The façade, unlike the rest of the building, is in Baroque style.

The Museo de Málaga (middle left) brought together the former Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes (Provincial Museum of Fine Arts), and Museo Arqueológico Provincial (Provincial Archeological Museum). There are slightly over 2,000 pieces in the Fine Arts collection and over 15,000 in the Archeology collection.

Málaga Town Hall (lower left) opened to the public in 1919, the City Council building is the work of architects Guerrero Strachan and Rivera Vera.

The Alcazaba (upper right) is a palatial fortification in Málaga, Spain. It was built by the Hammudid dynasty in the early 11th century.
